EWG-ORD 2018 Workshop: OR for Sustainable Development

Date: July 5-6, 2018
Venue: Madrid, Spain

EURO Working Group-Operational Research for Development(EWG-ORD), was established in 2006. Its aim is to promote and facilitate communication links among European and other researchers working in areas of operational research for development. EWG-ORD has been organising yearly workshops to promote the importance of operational research in improving the lives of people in developing and developed countries.

The development concept has been evolving over time. The Millennium Development Goals established in 2000 by the United Nations have been replaced in 2016 by the wider and much more ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), consisting of 17 goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all, affecting all sectors in developing and developed countries. Among other things, the OR discipline enables incorporation of consistent objectives and establishment of optimum policies and procedures.

The EWG-ORD 2018 Workshop aims to be a forum for debate and exchange of knowledge and experiences to direct operational research activities towards the achievement of the following SDGs through OR:

SDG1: No Poverty
SDG2: Zero Hunger
SDG3: Good Health and Well-Being
SDG4: Quality Education
SDG5: Gender Equality
SDG6: Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
SDG9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
SDG10: Reduced Inequalities
SDG11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG13: Climate Change
SDG14: Life Below Water
SDG15: Life on Land
SDG16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
SDG17: Partnerships for the Goals

Aware of the need to promote sustainable development in developing countries, EWG-ORD is offering a number of grant to partially support the expenses of participants from weak currency countries.
