In this session, panellists discuss how cities and regions can build, embed and reshape global value chains (GVCs) to their enhancement and technological upgrading. The session aims to contribute to wider discussions on regional innovation and smart specialisation strategies and in particular on the role regional governments can play in leading the co-creation and capture of value opportunities.

Global connectivity and GVCs take centre stage in the post 2020 EU Cohesion Policy and are more important than ever for recovery after the pandemic. This session will offer the opportunity of a rigorous discussion of this emerging topic that has been rarely analysed at the regional level.

The session will also be an opportunity to present a new RSA Policy Impact Book that offers an extensive coverage of these debates for everyone interested in a practical critical review and analysis of this ‘hot’ policy topic. RSA members will receive a hard copy and can access the book online when published.
